Gunel Behbudova stands as a pioneering force in Azerbaijan’s fashion industry, blending art and design into a unique vision. Gunel Behbudova, born on April 3, 1988, in Baku, has long been a force of creativity and innovation in the fashion industry. From a young age, she showed an affinity for drawing and needlework, which later became the foundation for her celebrated career. In 2010, Gunel graduated with honors from the Azerbaijan State Academy of Art, where she specialized in fashion design. The same year, she joined the Union of Artists, and in 2012, she was awarded the prestigious Presidential Scholarship from the Union for her remarkable contributions to the arts. Gunel’s fashion journey began in 2010 when she opened her boutique, Fashion Mystery, in Baku.
Specializing in exclusive evening gowns, the boutique featured haute couture collections, alongside prêt-à-porter lines. She soon expanded her brand to include designs in exclusive footwear, accessories, and jewelry. In 2014, she launched Bridal Couture, a boutique dedicated to her unique collection of wedding dresses. A notable presence in both local and international fashion scenes, Gunel has participated in and won numerous fashion exhibitions and shows across Azerbaijan, the CIS, and Europe. Her early success came in 2009 when she won the top prize at the Young Fashion Designers Festival. In January 2013, she represented her work at an Applied Arts exhibition in Paris, followed by receiving an honorary diploma at the International Azerbaijani-Georgian Festival later that year. In 2014, Gunel earned the prestigious Fashion Designer of the Year award, solidifying her place as one of the leading names in the industry.
Throughout her career, Gunel has contributed to high-profile fashion events. In 2014, she showcased her collection and served as a jury member at the 23rd Republican Festival-Contest "Fashion Mill" in Belarus. That same year, she participated in Fashion Night and designed outfits for contestants of the Miss Globe International beauty contest, which took place in Azerbaijan. Her collection was later presented at Baku Fashion Week on November 22, 2014, and at Azerbaijan Fashion Week in May 2015. Her international acclaim continued to grow when she represented Azerbaijan at the World EXPO exhibition in Milan, held from May to October 2015. Gunel’s collaboration with famed singer Low Deep in August 2015, where she showcased a swimwear and evening wear collection, added another milestone to her impressive portfolio. In 2016, Gunel ventured into children’s fashion, hosting the Spring-Summer 2016 Children's Fashion Show at the Fairmont Hotel and later organizing the Fall-Winter 2016-2017 show, marking her influence across diverse fashion segments. One of the highlights of Gunel’s career came in March 2017, during a charity event at the Four Seasons Hotel Baku, where she was honored with a statuette by Turkish Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Erkan Özoral, in recognition of her contributions to the fashion world.
Later that year, she participated in Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, showcasing her outerwear collection, and in 2018, she became a director at the Azerbaijan Designers Association. Gunel’s influence continued to grow as she participated in the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Azerbaijan on April 29, 2018, and a fashion event organized by the British Embassy in Baku on April 30. Additionally, she attended a fashion event organized by Nargis Magazine in Paris in January 2018. In September 2019, Gunel participated in a grand event, Millionaire Concept Baku, organized by the Millionaire Concept Private Membership Club, where she was appointed ambassador and presented her latest collection. She later presented her autumn-winter collection at Azerbaijan Fashion Week and Baku Fashion Expo Midseason in November 2019.
On December 13, 2019, Gunel was awarded the Fashion TV Award after presenting her new collection at Baku Fashion Week. She continued her success with a private fashion show at L’Avenue Baku in March 2020. In 2021 and 2022, Gunel was honored with the Azerbaijan Woman Awards in March, and in June 2022, she received the Golden People Award for her outstanding achievements in the fashion industry. Most recently, Gunel has continued to expand her reach with a private fashion show held at The Millionaire Concept Gala on November 20, 2023, and another show on July 3, 2024, where she was awarded for her continued contributions to fashion.
